A Call to Caretaking:
As God’s people, through the Spirit’s work in our hearts, we are called to deliver the needy, the poor, and to help those who do not have help.
One way we do this is through Caretaking. Caring for others touches every age and stage of our lives as women. We take care of children, particularly those with special needs, aging parents, spouses, and loved ones who are seriously ill. Yet, caring for others takes a toll on the caretaker.
How can we support those who are caring for others? What is it like to take care of someone in dire need? What are the needs? How do I prepare for that season of life myself?
These questions and more will be part of our Feb. 3, Women In the Church, Coffee gathering. Join us that morning for a panel discussion titled, “Caring for the Caretaker.” In addition, please plan to join us that morning to assemble care packages for our college students, and meal baskets for our widowers.
Our evening Coffee Fellowship will hear from our church’s ministry, Our Covenant’s Call. The call to love the orphan is a call that flows from the Gospel. We were orphans who were spiritually poor, needy, and without a helper outside of our Savior Jesus Christ. OCC will share ways we can be involved in adoption ministry.

COVENANT COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES

As a church family, the Lord has called us to know one another and to live life together. Through our fellowship we are able to walk beside one another through both the joys and sorrows of life. Christian community is one of the greatest treasures and responsibilities given to us by Christ Jesus, who unites us to each other through our first being united to Him.
Church-wide Events: As Women In the Church we realize that we do not exist for our own glory but for the glory of our great God and Risen Savior. In light of this, we desire to be pillars of support to our leadership by helping to organize several church wide fellowship opportunities each year. One of these events is a Picnic and Hymn Sing (held in September or October). In addition, we organize a Glorious Sounds of Christmas reception (on the night of our December choir program).   In the coming year, we anticipate having a church-wide celebration during the dedication of our new sanctuary. Please mark your calendars for these events as details become available, as they are wonderful times for the Covenant Church family to gather for fun and fellowship and to enjoy one another! Coordinator: Julie Morris

Home Fellowship Dinners: Breaking bread together was something the early church did often. Sometimes the best friendships can be formed over a shared meal in a home. In the fall and then again in the winter months Home Fellowship groups are organized and meet once a month in members’ homes.   Our Women in the Church has the privilege of coordinating these fellowship groups. Be sure to watch for sign up opportunities in the church bulletin and plan to join in! Chairmen: Brenda Chambers, Anne Clinton and Marion Wheeler

Ministry to Moms of Newborns & Moms-to-be: Having a new baby can be a difficult time of adjustment and transition. Scripture gives us instruction in Titus 2 of the need for older women to teach the younger in life-on-life ministry. Twice a year a group hosts a luncheon to honor mothers of newborns and those expecting, and to provide an opportunity for them to fellowship together. In addition, they have the chance to hear from and form relationships with older women in our Covenant Church body who have walked in their shoes.   Chairmen: Ann Poteet, Carol Pulliam, Mary Barret Gillum, Emily Falls

WIC Yearly Events: Women need women! In light of this our women’s ministry seeks to gather our women together for a time of food, fellowship and fun several times a year. We kickoff our WIC year in August with our Women In the Church Kickoff event where we hear about our Bible Study semester, service and fellowship opportunities, and semester schedule. This is a great time for us to reconnect after the summer break. We gather again in December for a much-anticipated yearly luncheon where we hear testimonies of faith from several women, as we celebrate the season of the birth of our Savior. Finally, we wrap up our WIC year in May with a Spring Conference, as we again have the chance for fellowship and a luncheon with the teaching of God’s Word from a special speaker, before we head into the summer break. Coordinator: Julie Morris

WIC Service “Coffees": Several times during our Bible Study year, we pause to put hands and feet to what we are learning, during our service Coffee days. These events provide us some down time to visit together about what we are learning and to share our lives, while at the same time serving side-by-side or hearing about opportunities for service. The format for these mornings includes outside missionary speakers, mission reports and testimonies from our own women and ministries, as well as service projects both inside and outside of the church. Please be sure to mark your calendars for these special days and plan to come. You do not have to be enrolled in Bible Study in order to join us! Chairman: Mary Sensing

Small Group Fellowship “Coffees”: In addition to our Service “Coffees,” twice during the Bible Study year we pause from our studies to meet together as small groups in someone’s home. These opportunities (in October and January) give us the chance to form tighter bonds of fellowship, and a chance to share how God’s Word is transforming our hearts and impacting our lives. Coordinators: Danielle Hulgan and Dee Sinard

SERVING OUR SAVIOR

Our Lord has blessed us in many ways, and our desire is to glorify Him in our service both within our church body as well as our community. There are a number of opportunities to use the talents and gifts that our Lord has given us, as we encourage others through tangible acts of mercy and compassion. As our Savior Jesus has demonstrated His love, compassion and mercy to us we desire to share the same with others.
Flower & Tape Delivery: Volunteers take flowers from the Sunday arrangements and tapes of the service to church members who are ill or to others for whom they might be a blessing. Chairman: Elizabeth Crockett

Greeters: Volunteers greet worshippers on Sunday Morning before early and late church. Chairman: Tricia Thornton

Mercy Meals: 3 groups of volunteers provide meals to new moms, to families in bereavement and to families dealing with an on-going illness or special situation. Coordinator: Carol Bruce Parham

Missions Projects: Our Mission to the World and Mission to North America church committees have ongoing projects. These projects provide opportunities for the women’s ministry to provide help and support to missions through assisting these committees. If you have a heart for local or overseas missions, this is a great way to be involved. Coordinators: Gina Stansell and Tammi Hollis

Office Support: This committee regularly assists the church office with assembling bulletins, newsletters, and periodic mass mailings. Chairman: Dot Deathridge

Operation Christmas Child: A committee coordinates Covenant’s participation in Samaritan’s Purse, which distributes shoeboxes filled with toys and necessities to needy children throughout the world. Chairman: Eleanor Hippe

Prayer Ministry: Covenant has a prayer ministry that works to link needs with prayer warriors in our body via e-mail, telephone and prayer groups to pray for immediate needs in our church family. Chairman: Ann Poteet

WIC Coffees: This committee organizes our monthly “coffees,” which are opportunities for ladies to participate in missions and service opportunities inside and outside the church. In addition, they are opportunities to foster relationships between women both through serving side by side, as well as fellowshipping together. Chairman: Mary Sensing

Widows Ministry: A group maintains contact with widows in our congregation and acknowledges special occasions with them, assures that their physical needs are met and hosts gatherings throughout the year. Chairmen: Julie Morris and Dot Butler
