Stephen Ministries

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another;
as I have loved you, that you also love one another. – John 13:34

The mission of Stephen Ministries is to proclaim through word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ by nurturing, edifying, educating, and equipping the whole people of God who are called, gifted, and sent to be more effective servants who care for the needs of the whole person.

What does that mean? Stephen Ministry is a ministry to equip lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community. Stephen Ministers go through 36 hours of training, regular continuing education, and once a month small group peer supervision. They have skills in active listening, dealing with feelings, Christian care giving, crisis intervention, and ministering in a wide range of situations. Most importantly, Stephen Ministers rely on God to direct their actions and help them as they care for their care receivers.

Who can benefit from the care of a Stephen Minister?

  • Those facing life transitions
  • Those experiencing depression or loneliness
  • Those in spiritual crisis
  • Households experiencing birth or adoption
  • The terminally ill and their families
  • Those with a job crisis

Do you need someone to confide in on a strictly confidential basis – a trained, caring individual? If you would like the friendship of a Stephen Minister please contact Pastor Jack Foster at 383-2206, ext. 292, or e-mail him at jackf@covenantpres.com.

Therefore comfort each other and edify one another. – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
